World Wildlife Wiki - Homepage
This wildlife wiki has been set up to help our fellow creatures through the collection and distribution of the valuable know how of wildlife carers everywhere. November 2006.
===== **INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE - PLEASE READ HERE FIRST** =====
Like all wikipedias, content here is not necessarily scientifically tested, and is often based on opinion and experience, so should be used at your sole discretion and personal risk. Greypath and the wiki contributors can not be held responsible in any way for any information posted here. By using this site you expressly agree to such conditions. Click here for Conditions of use
1. Some basic user hints are offered below here to get you started. [Remember to register to be able to add content etc]. You will need to click on Special Page on the left, then wiki/docwiki for the complete HOW TO manual
FOR VISITORS
2.Firstly, you can find all the topic pages in this wiki, in alphabetic order, by clicking Special Page, (see left under the Tool Box), which is the overall site index page. Once you find the page/topic you are seeking, click on it and you will be taken to it.
FOR CONTRIBUTORS.
3. You need to register, (top right of this page), before you can interact/post new content or add or correct others, with this wiki. To assist everyone in finding your postings, please firstly list any new content under one of four ‘groups’
- mammals, * birds * reptiles or * general
and then next, under the group animal’s popular name (rather than it’s scientific name), then a refined description. See the example titles below.
E.g. mammals:possums:feeding, or mammals:possums:broken limbs, or reptiles:lizards:handling, or birds:magpies:broken wings or general:wildlife:carers associations in Italy, or general:medications:dehydration-kaomagma
As shown above, always use colons (:) between the parts of the title, as this is an important part of the search process.
4. The general idea is that if there is already an existing page covering your subject, then you add extra paragraphs with your additions, or amend erroneous existing content on that existing page.
5. If a close enough page does not exist, (say mammals:possums:diseases), then you first need to create that new page by typing the words, mammals:possums:diseases, into the search box, and then clicking search. This leads to a page with a top tab saying ‘create new page’. Click this, and a text box will come up. Add your contribution text, (you must add at least one word), and only then click save.... If you check, you will now find your new page in the index. (see para 2)
GENERAL
6. Remember that wikis are anarchic, so that anyone can add to or amend your postings. This is both the great strength and the great weakness of these systems. Carers are sensitive people, so please use great care here, and be careful not to offend others who post in equal good faith to yours.
7. You can improve a postings readability, and add images and also links, by using the 18 small icons above the text box you will see when editing a page or making a new page
8. You can edit any page, (add to, delete sections, or change it), after first clicking the ‘edit this page’ tab above the text box, typing in your entry, previewing how it looks, and then clicking save.
9. When beginning new pages, (and you are a little unsure of what you are doing the first time), you will also see an option at the top of the page to go to a ‘play ground’, where you can try things out, without them being permanent.
10.If you need further advice or wish to offer ideas, do email us.manager@greypath.com.
